CanadaSound: do you recognize the sounds of Kingston?

What are Canada’s most iconic sounds? What is your favourite Canadian sound? Why? Those are the questions we’re asking you this year, as part of our Canada 150 project called CanadaSound. We’re hoping to create the ultimate Canadian soundmap. Throughout the year, I’ll share some of the country’s most unique and recognizable sounds.

Today: Kingston, Ont.

K-Town is famous as the first capital of Canada, the gateway to the Thousand Islands and home to the Tragically Hip and Don Cherry. Like all Canadian communities, it also has its own distinct set of sounds. Check out the rhythmic video above, submitted by Tyton Sound and Shoreline Productions, and see how many you can name!

Now: what are the distinct Canadian sounds of your town or city? Let us know! You can submit them here.

CBC Music is pleased to support CanadaSound, imagined by cleansheet communications, with partners the Junos, SOCAN, Musicounts, Canadian Heritage, ICI Musique and Adisque.

Your details

We need them and you’ll like why! If you submit a sound we love, we’ll need to find you. Perhaps it’s to tell you your sound has been mixed by a prominent DJ and will air nationally, or that we’d like to feature the story behind your sound on CBC Radio, or perhaps a certain artist has taken an interest in your sound and wants to connect with to you directly. Seriously! Anyway you look at it, it’s all good.
